    The recordings Big Maceo made in the two years covered by this set are some of the last he made for Bluebird before a stroke incapacitated him. In fact, the last four sides were recorded after his stroke, still able to vocalize sweetly, but with Eddie Boyd brought in to play piano on the date.     In Bluebird was unable to continue releasing records when shellac was rationed due to the war effort. At the end of the war, Bluebird was officially shut down. RCA-Victor has occasionally resurrected Bluebird's recordings on vinyl and CD, and the imprint itself has also been used periodically.
